Mylar bags are commonly used as food packaging, so let’s explore what exactly they can store and what should be considered when customizing Mylar bags.

Thanks to their excellent protective properties and versatile designs, Mylar bags (polyester film bags) can hold a wide range of items. They effectively block light, moisture, and oxygen, while also being lightweight, easy to use, and often resealable—making them ideal for storing items with specific preservation requirements.

Tips for Selecting and Using Mylar Bags

  1. Pay Attention to Material and Thickness: Mylar bags are typically made of composite materials such as PET/AL/PE (polyester film/aluminum foil/polyethylene). Another common structure is PET+PE. Thickness affects protective performance; for important items, choosing a slightly thicker bag may provide greater peace of mind.

  1. Choose the Right Size: The bag should be slightly larger than the item to allow sufficient space for sealing, but not too large to avoid material waste and excess air retention.

  2. Ensure Effective Sealing: This is key to maximizing the protective function of Mylar bags.

    • For heat-sealable bags, you can use a hair straightener, flat iron (clean and oil-free), household iron (on low heat, with a cloth barrier), or a dedicated impulse heat sealer to slowly and evenly press along the opening.

    • For zipper-seal bags, after sealing, be sure to press again with your fingers to ensure complete closure.

  3. Use Oxygen Absorbers or Desiccants: For items highly susceptible to oxidation (e.g., high-end electronics, precious metal collectibles) or extremely sensitive to humidity, you can place an appropriate amount of oxygen absorbers or desiccants inside the Mylar bag before sealing to provide more comprehensive protection.

  4. Customization Options: Many suppliers offer customization services, including size, color, logo printing, and even material structure, though these typically come with minimum order quantity (MOQ) requirements.
